MAJOR URBAN DEVELOPMENT AWARDS WIN FOR EAST VILLAGE

  • East Sydney:

The East Village project developed by PAYCE at Victoria Park, Zetland continues to receive widespread acclaim, picking up its third major industry award in less than a month.

Voted by Judges this week in Sydney as the Best Retail and Commercial Development - East Village claimed top honours at the recent 2015 (UDIA) Urban Development Institute of Australia (NSW/ACT) Industry Award.

East Village for residential, retail and commercial development, ticks all the boxes.

The East Village residential, retail and commercial precinct combines leading edge residential apartments and a unique urban marketplace with a range of shopping and cuisine options that attracts patronage from all over Sydney. Residents within the complex have a 6,500 square metre central Sky Park distinguished by barbeque areas, shade booths and a communal garden to enjoy with friends and share with neighbours along with their premium quality residences. The East Village Sky Park is one of the largest of its type in the Southern Hemisphere.

The latest accolade for the project follows hot on the heels of the top award in the Urban Taskforce Awards for Development of the Year including the best project in the Architecture-Residential-Constructed category at the recent Sydney Design Awards.

Remarking on the East Village Development - The UDIA judges comment.

The UDIA (NSW) judging panel stated they were won over by East Village's exemplary retail and commercial component.

"The development addresses an important need in the Victoria Park neighbourhood for a range of goods and services that are user-friendly, design responsive and environmentally sustainable. It is clear that East Village has delivered on all fronts."

"East Village challenges the way we perceive zoning laws in Australia," concluded the judging panel, "and hopefully it will act as a precedent on how to deliver retail development that includes a light industrial and commercial component for future developments in Australia."

"It has a bold, dynamic, well-executed and forward thinking approach to design. Integrating retail, food and beverage, community uses and light industrial and commercial purpose into a rich tapestry of horizontality and verticality which has made this, the East Village precinct the winning entry," stated the UDIA judging panel.

Brian Boyd – we are very proud of our very talented and creative team...

"We had a wonderful team of incredibly talented and creative people working on the project, which includes our design partners, TURNER Architects, Koichi Takada Interior Architects and HASSELL, along with construction company, Dasco Australia Pty Ltd and of course, our own PAYCE personnel," said Brian Boyd.

"We are all, so immensely proud of what has been achieved, everyone associated with the project is thrilled with the continual acclaim, East Village continues to receive," he said.

PAYCE's Managing Director, Brian Boyd said the project was the product of an exemplary team effort in delivering something truly unique and of import to residents and the community.

Dominic Sullivan – East Village is a one of a kind development...

"Our focus at PAYCE is as ever on building sustainable communities that thrive in well-designed urban precincts. East Village is a primary example of a lively, community hub that is an exciting place to live, work and play within a friendly village atmosphere," he said.

"This latest award contributes to a growing list of industry accolades that East Village has received, ranging from design excellence, mixed-use architecture, innovation and sustainability to environmental initiatives," Mr Sullivan said.

At a gala dinner in Sydney attended by over 900 industry representatives, the awards were presented to East Village, which will now be considered for the UDIA NSW and ACT President's Award to be announced on 2 September. Select State winners will also be entered into the UDIA National Awards for Excellence determined by the Institute's National Congress in Adelaide next year.

PAYCE's General Manager, Dominic Sullivan said the retail component of East Village is truly a unique and wonderful experience inspired by some of the leading urban marketplaces found around the world.
